Language Customisation

The Captive Portal user experience can be translated into any language you are able to build a translation for, while 4WiFi provides the ability to provide translated text it takes no responsibility for the accuracy of the translations you configure (as they are controlled by the site owner and not 4WiFi).

The 4WiFi Portal remains English Only for administration purposes.

In order to enable Language Customisation module on your property, please contact 4WiFi support to enable it and also specify which additional languages you wish to allow your guests to utilise as 4WiFi Staff need to configure this part of the system for you initially and will provide some guidance around numbers of translations and how the process works for your guests and how to setup the customisations.

This will appear as a selector immediately under your site logo on the Captive Portal when the module is enabled and at least 1 additional language has been configured by 4WiFi staff.

Once enabled, the Captive Portal page under Access will have a new link appear, you manage the customisations from here:

The initial page will show the list of detected variables that can have translations applied, this list could increase in number at any time if new variables are accessed by your guests and additional translations will need to be added at that time. The list does not populate with every possibility as the majority of sites use only a small subset of the features and modules within the 4WiFi platform and so to keep the interface as concise to your own site as possible and avoid confusion, available translations are added when they are first detected as being used by a user on a captive portal screen.

The list ALWAYS has English as an available translation, you should only modify this if you wish to change the values available elsewhere in the platform. Since the default language is English, the defaults in the system will apply and are likely already configured the way you want. Of course you can modify them here if you wish to control it in that way.

By clicking on the coloured cross or check mark, you can edit the translation for a specific variable. The name of the variable gives some basic reference as to where it may be used in the system. There is no definitive list of where each variable is used as this is a fluid list and may contain new entries as the system is extended.

The “Default Text” will always show so that you know what the system would have provided if you did not have a translation set, this is helpful to understand what you are translating from.

If there are any MERGE items, they will be in the format of ***MERGEITEM*** and are required to be part of your Customised Text field when saving otherwise the item will not save. If you miss an item you will be given a chance to correct it without losing your text. These items provide the ability for the system to merge in extra dynamic data such as user credentials and dates etc.

You can test the flow of the captive portal from the Preview Access section of the Captive Portal page.
