Site-wide settings and a few items that do not fit anywhere else are able to be set in the “General” menu item under the Settings menu:

...

There is some general information about the Hotspot Controller and your Subscription status provided at the top:

...

Within the General section, you are able to set several site-wide options which are explained below:

...

  • Log Limit determines the number of entries to display on screen for the various lists when guests are logging in. A smaller list usually is simpler to work from.

  • Timezone applies to all dates and times within the system such that your guests access matches the local time of your property, it also ensures the dashboard logs and times correlate.

  • Hotspot Login Redirect is the site which guests will be redirected to after successfully logging on, this can be any website at all. If this value is changed, a reboot of the Hotspot Controller is necessary to update the local files associated with this function.

  • Max Download Speed and Max Upload Speed are site-wide bandwidth limit values which ensure the totality of your guests do not exceed a given bandwidth limit. This is most useful on sites that are sharing an internet connection with the site office or onsite manager to ensure there is always some internet remaining for critical administration tasks such as checking guests in.

  • Voucher Logo can be uploaded which is printed on Printable Vouchers. If this is not specified, the main logo on your Captive Portal is used.

  • Disable Dynamic Hosts is a security setting which prevents guests setting their own IP Addresses on their devices (which the system will normally try to provide access to), once your site has been running for a week or more, it is recommended you enable this.

  • Allow External DNS for AUTHED disables the use of the built-in Caching DNS Server and allows your guests to use their own DNS Servers if they wish to, it also allows you to specify different DNS Servers to be automatically advertised to your guests with the next option.

  • DNS Servers for Hotspot DHCP allows you to change the DNS Servers advertised by the Hotspot Controller. Changing this without enabling the above option has no effect, both are presented as there are reasons to do one the above but not modify this.
Using quad9 DNS Servers can provide some level of malware/threat protection to your guests.
